Question: What makes a good website?
There are many things that make a website good, but here are our favorites:

  • Search engine friendly
  • Atrractive images that engage the mind and emotion
  • Content of useful and interesting information
  • Interconnecting links
  • Easily viewed on multiple browsers
  • Easy to navigate
  • Accessibility features for seniors and the disabled
  • Built-in translation link

    Question
How do I get people to visit my web site?
    Answer
There are two kinds of website travelers: those who know you and those who don't.

  • For those who know you, you need to share your web address or URL. You do this on your letterhead stationary, business cards, flyers, brochures, advertising, signs, etc.) Also, general searches on the internet will easily turn find your company name.
  • The majority of people on the internet will have no idea who you are or what you do, which is why we rely so heavily on Search Engine Optimization (SEO). A website without SEO is virtually useless. The background codes and the content of your website should provide the needed information to allow people searching for the products or services to find you. In addition to building your website to work with the search engines, you may need online marketing like PPC services.

    Question
    What is PPC?
    Answer
Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing is an internet advertising system that charges you on a pay-per-click basis. Most notably is Google AdWords. You bid the price you will pay for each person sent to your website. This works instantly, but can be very expensive over time. Some people use this system instead of SEO. We recommend SEO first to get a baseline of visitors. Then you might consider our monthly marketing campaigns. As part of our services we handle campaigns on Google AdWords.

    Question
How many keywords do you recommend?
    Answer
While some people say there is no limit to the keywords you can associate with your website, we are of the camp that believes too many keywords dilute the message. We like to ask for the client's ideas of the top three keyword phrases that people might search for to find their website. Then we use those keywords to find what the competition is using. We then combine for what we think will be the best keywords for your site. If you offer a wide variety of products and services, then perhaps you would need a considerable amount of pages to convey the information.

    Question
What if I need more pages?
    Answer
As we learn more about you prior to building your new website, we might suggest more pages. Generally, we believe that search engines give more weight to larger websites in search results. We usually suggest building a website in steps, so we can review and change directions as needed. General headings are the first consideration. Once we have those correct, it's easy to add more relavant pages. Part of what we do is build a sitemap in the XLM format, which tells Google your main pages and the importance of each page along with the date it was last updated.

    Question
How soon will people be able to find us on the internet?
    Answer
As soon as we complete a website we submit the site to Google for indexing. We also add links from our proprietary websites to your website and update our own pages with Google hoping to boost approval, but Google moves at their own speed. Sometimes approval comes quickly, even overnight. Sometimes it takes weeks. Brand new website can take a month or more to begin showing up in search results. This is why we tell people to get their website up early. We can always make changes, but timing is something you can't count on for approval.

    Question
I can get a free website from many places, why should I pay you to create a website for me?
    Answer
Free websites are from standard templates, which can give you a nice looking website, but are like a nice looking car with no engine. It's not going to get you anywhere. Our websites come with engines. Websites need to be found on the internet. The competition is huge. If you are not on the first couple of pages in a Google search your chances of being found by potential clients is small.

    Question
Aren't there other places where I can get a website and have marketing included for just a monthly payment?
    Answer
Yes, there are. But sometimes the biggest names in in directories will cost you the most and give you the least.

    Question
Why shouldn't I try those places out. They must be going something right.
    Answer
Always read the fine print. Quite often with a free website and discounted hosting, you don't even own your domain name. That means after paying and paying for construction and results, you could leave with absolutely nothing. You should always own your domain name, which can be transferred if you decide to sell the name and the business.

    Question
How do I get my domain name?
    Answer
You can go to www.godaddy.com. On their main page they have a feature where you can simply type in a name and they will tell you if it is available. You can then select it and then you pay for it.

    Question
I heard that domain registration is expensive. Can I get a discount if I pay for multiple years?
    Answer
We recommend you pay year by year with an "auto renew" feature. Who knows what the future may hold. If you pay for five years of domain name, you save a minimal amount, but if you change your name a year or two later that money that you already paid is gone.

    Question
I have a domain name and I got an email and a letter warning me that the time to renew was coming due, but with a single payment I could save my domain name. Should I do that?
    Answer
Most of these good deed warning come with a price. And, that price is usually several times the real cost. If you have a reputable firm building and managing your website, you'll probably be billed for both domain name renewal and hosting that will be less than the "do gooders" want to charge you for renewal registration by itself.

    Question
    What is S.E.O. and S.E.M.?
    Answer
S.E.O. stands for Search Engine Optimization and S.E.M. stands for Search Engine Marketing. Both basically are plans to increase a website's visibility on search engines like Google. Which means, their goal is to get a website to show up on page #1 instead of further back in the pack.

    Question
    Can't I do my own S.E.O.?
    Answer
Of course, but most people can't even get the title of their home page correct. If you visit a website and the name in the title bar shows up as "home" or "welcome" then you know that the website is homegrown. Who would do a search for "home" or "welcome" when those words tell nothing about the company or their service? The background codes of a website tell the search engines what your website is about. Choosing the "right" words and the "right" number of words is what S.E.O. is all about.

    Question
What happens when a website is finished and launched?
    Answer
Websites are rarely finished. Think of them as plastic with an ever changing form. Your product or service changes, and your website needs to reflect that. The search engines change how they evaluate websites, and your website must change to take advantage of the new circumstances.

    Question
How do the search engines find websites?
    Answer
That is a good question. People who create their own websites either don't know the second step or don't understand how to use it. Once a website is ready to be viewed, it needs to be submitted to the search engines. Generally speaking, you only need to submit to Google, but we always recommend both Google and Bing. We also list each new websites on our own proprietary web pages that are frequently visited by search engine "spiders" or "robots." We build a "sitemap" featuring each page along with it's rank of importance. We Google's Webmaster Central (or used to be called that) where we introduce the website to Google and submit the sitemap. Google responds with information: how many pages were submitted and how many are indexed. Indexed pages are more powerful. With each update of a website, we change the information on the sitemap and submit the new sitemap. We call it "mother henning" as we return, and return, until more and more of indexed pages are added to the list.

    Question
What if I have a website that I like the look and feel of? What can I do to get more traffic?
    Answer
There are many things that can be done to get traffic, but always remember what you are looking for is "targeted" traffic. That is what S.E.O. is all about. Sometimes we can make changes to the background codes and not affect the look of a website at all. This could result in targeted traffic. Or we you could take advantage of our Monthly Marketing packages, where we supply a landing page, which would have a narrow focus and use S.E.O. in finding people who are looking for your services or products.

    Question
Do you use Social Media to increase traffic.
    Answer
Yes. We have a list of about two hundred Facebook pages that are great places for telling local people about your products and services. We prefer to send them directly to your website or to call immediately.

    Question
I worry about people making bad comments on Facebook about our services and/or giving us a bad review.
    Answer
On your own Facebook page, you can simply delete a comment, but you should really deal with the problem directly. For website reviews, your might consider some reputation management. Sometimes reviews can be removed. We've done that for clients before, the results may vary. We can also encourage more favorable reviews. We even have a website that is nothing but reviews for our clients.
